Celebrating London

Thursday, 09 February 2012 16:38

With all the recent cold weather it feels like London should be hosting the Winter rather than the Summer Olympics! But it is not ski jumping, figure skating or even bobsleigh races that will soon be taking over the capital but gymnastics, water polo and table tennis. To get into the Olympic spirit, CLD Stationery has just launched a new line of London motif cards for children and those young at heart.

The BBC to the rescue

To date, I have planned and hosted 18 children's parties. Invitation, food, party favours...  I can do almost on autopilot but thinking of something interesting to actually do with the children I still find a huge challenge and getting more difficult with each new birthday.

This year the BBC came to the rescue in the form of the Children's Television Tour. For a small fee, 18 children and 4 adults were escorted around the BBC television centre by our lovely and chatty guide Rachel. The children had the opportunity to try their hand at hosting a news programme, play their own version of the CBBC show Copycats, test the blue screen, explore an old Blue Peter set and even see a few Strictly Come Dancing stars as they prepared for their evening show! So if you are looking for something different to do at your next children's party, I highly recommend you call the BBC!

A big thanks to our in house designer Jennifer for creating our bespoke invitation.

Imprintable Birthday Party Invitations

I am not one of those uber competitive Mums but when it comes to children’s party invitations, I know the other Mums are expecting a bit more from me. But like all Mums, I don’t want to spend a fortune on invitations for a 9 year old’s birthday but I still want something fun and a little different. Luckily, I found just the perfect invitations when I was in New York at Kate’s Paperie by Chicago based Snow & Graham. With their stylish imprintable cards all I had to do was add my information and print. DIY cards are all the rage is the US but I am wondering if they would have the same appeal in the UK. Let me know if you think we should be stocking more imprintable cards?
As a mother I know how difficult it can be to get your children to sit down and write their thank you notes so here are a few of my top tips.
  1. Teach children the key elements required in a thank you card (e.g. Dear X. Thank you for Y. Bonus points, if you can get the child to write why they liked Y. Love Z) but don’t expect perfection. I find most people are so impressed to receive a thank you note from a niece or grandson that they are not overly bothered by the slightly messy handwriting and imperfect spelling -- at this point in a child’s life it is more about getting them in the good habit of writing a thank you note.
  2. Allow children to be creative – so if they want to doodle on the card let them, it makes it more fun for the child and that much more personal for the receiver.
  3. Buy them their own stationery – it does not have to be fancy but children love seeing their name in print and it makes them feel more grown up.
